Design features

Every once and a while, things don’t quite pan out. Take my Ginny project for instance. In an attempt to circumvent the fullness in the sleeves I winged it and took the extra fullness out of the pattern. I did however, forget to factor in that this might change the actual sleeve length of the finished product.

So, its back to the drawing board. I had knit the cuffs, then picked up stitches to continue the sleeves. It wasn’t easy, but I have now carefully removed the cuff. I haven’t quite decided to how to fix the problem, but I’m working on it.

To tell you the truth, I’m kind of glad that I messed up on the cuff. I wasn’t liking the way the cuff was fitting, it didn’t quite work with the sleeve alteration I made. I am thinking of knitting a couple of rows, doing a picot edge and creating a hem. It is one of those things that I love about knitting. A mistake can quickly become a design feature.

Oh my goodness, I could never do this, but the color is gorgeous. I wish that I could turn a mistake into a design feature.

A picot sounds great! I love this about knitting, too – it can be anything you want it to be!
