This makes me happy

I made these snowmen last year for gifts, and this year I gave one to a co-worker to decorate her workspace. She seemed to think that the snowman needed a hat.

Flash forward to this year when Anna at MochimochiLand asked me to test knit for her Tiny Mochi’s collection 6 I started thinking that the acorn cap would make a pretty nice hat for the snowman. I think that I was right!

It’s Friday Night

It’s Friday night and I am tired. Stuff at work is piling up and there never seems to be enough time in my workday to get everything done. I hate that. We have a busy weekend planned too, touring a couple of colleges here in Seattle for Fiona. I can’t believe that she is old enough to go to college, seems like just yesterday she was gearing up for kindergarten.

Then there is the puppy training class in the afternoon, the endless attempts to try and get caught up on the laundry and the housework. Somehow, I don’t think that every thing is going to get done. I’d love to just curl up on the couch and knit, but I will be lucky to sneak in a few rows occasionally. (It only took me four tries to get occasionally spelled correctly).

So on that note I am going to bed. And I am hoping that I I have enough coffee around the house to have a cuppa before heading out in the morning.

There. I have done it. Blogged every single day in November. I even finished a pair of socks this month, but until I find my card reader, the photo isn’t available. That particular issue has also delayed my 365 project as well. I haven’t stopped taking pictures, I just need to get them off the camera. One thing at a time I guess.

I finally settled on the yarn for my Hitchhiker Shawl. It is yarn I dyed a couple of years ago at Sock Camp. It is a bit stripy for my tastes, but since it is a gift I am just going to have to deal with it.

A busy day, starting at 1:30 this morning for the computer portion of the change from daylight savings time to standard time. It isn’t as easy as one would think, as we actually have to be down for an hour before the time change. So the long and short of is, 3 1/2 hours later I finally got to go to sleep for awhile. Then it was a trip over to Bellevue to bake bread with my sister in law, but it was actually an excuse to have some niece and nephew time.

So we made bread and it turned out pretty well. I may have to invest in a real bread pan, as using the meatloaf pan results in a very squat loaf of bread. More importantly I got to spend time with my niece and nephew, creating memories for all of us.

Sweater Tragedy

I don’t remember when I knit this sweater, but it is one that I keep at my office. Since the office is pretty darn cold most of the time it gets lots of use.

I was thinking this week that I need to knit another workhorse cardigan. Then I noticed that the left elbow has been warn to almost nothing. I do still have some of this yarn left over and I am planning on darning the elbows, but still, it is getting a bit worn for office wear. Guess I had better get planning then.

Yesterday I went to the Sounders game against Manchester United. There were fans of both teams converging upon the stadium and since I had a couple of hours to kill before the game, I was sitting at the coffee shop knitting. This little guy excitedly informed his mother that I was indeed knitting and wanted to know what I was knitting. Since it is a stealth project I didn’t have a photo of it, but I did have a perching pigeon in my bag so I pulled it out to give it to him. It was impossible to capture the delight on his face and as this age often does the smile turned to a grimace when I asked to take a photo.

Time just keeps zipping along around these parts. Can’t even say that it has been a fantastic summer, because we have only had about a week of truly summer weather. That particular week was spent at my folks when Mom had shoulder surgery. She seems to be recovering well, but it would be nice to actually have some summer weather on a weekend so that I felt like we could have some family summer events as well. Oh well. This is the PNW after all. I guess I shouldn’t complain.

Jynx in the Mirror

I’m knitting a pair of generic gray socks for the Husbeast, using odds and ends of yarn from my mom. Only problem is that she gave me yarn that is two different weights, so I may not have enough. If anyone out there with leftover gray sock yarn that you want to get rid of, just leave me a note!

Summer days and family

We have actually have had a couple of summery weather type days. They happen so rarely in June that they are more like a teaser of days to come after the fourth of July. Yesterday our niece was married, so some of us got together with family at Greenlake, to enjoy each other’s company while folks were still in town.

After the trip to the lake I wandered around a bit with my camera and caught this poppy, just after the petals had dropped off.

For some reason or another, photographic opportunities like this always intrigue me and challenge me like nothing else. It is part of what makes me love photography so much.

On another note, I finished a sock today. Unfortunately it is super sekrit knitting, so I can’t really show a photo of it. Now to cast on the other sock.

Lupine

I don’t remember planting lupine in my yard, but all of the sudden last year, there it was. It is a beautiful plant and I enjoy the loveliness of it’s flowers all summer long.
