May Day

I seem to be incapable of sustaining any type of rythmn with my blogging these days. I’m sorry. Work has been challenging, with all sorts of deadlines and new things to learn. All while trying to maintain the current operating system until go live. By the time I get home there just isn’t a whole lot left in the tank.

I have been knitting however, lots of linen stitch scarves, hoping to make a dent in the stash that has accumulated over the years. The dent doesn’t seem to have made much of a difference, but at least I can say that I am working toward it.

And I’ve been running. I completed my first 5k race over the weekend. The time wasn’t anything to write home about, but I finished without walking. And I am proud of that accomplishment. Fiona ran it too, leaving me in the dust. It was her first 5K and I couldn’t be prouder.

Bunny for Nico

I have quite a few baby things to knit lately, and it is close as to whether they will be completed before the baby arrives. No guessing on this one however, since Nico is now well over a year old and probably has no use for the baby blanket that should have been finished before he arrived.

So here is Nico’s bunny. Yarn is opal sock yarn, knit on size one needles.

Sweater Tragedy

I don’t remember when I knit this sweater, but it is one that I keep at my office. Since the office is pretty darn cold most of the time it gets lots of use.

I was thinking this week that I need to knit another workhorse cardigan. Then I noticed that the left elbow has been warn to almost nothing. I do still have some of this yarn left over and I am planning on darning the elbows, but still, it is getting a bit worn for office wear. Guess I had better get planning then.

Yesterday I went to the Sounders game against Manchester United. There were fans of both teams converging upon the stadium and since I had a couple of hours to kill before the game, I was sitting at the coffee shop knitting. This little guy excitedly informed his mother that I was indeed knitting and wanted to know what I was knitting. Since it is a stealth project I didn’t have a photo of it, but I did have a perching pigeon in my bag so I pulled it out to give it to him. It was impossible to capture the delight on his face and as this age often does the smile turned to a grimace when I asked to take a photo.

Fee and I were walking past an apartment building yesterday when we came across this huge black and white kitty. I thought that our older cats were big, but this guy clearly out masses them in that department.

Despite his size, he was a total love. It was difficult to walk away from him when it was time to go. And yes, Fiona is wearing tights, in July, in summer. At least that is what the calendar says. Outside? Not so much.

Jynx in the Mirror

I’m knitting a pair of generic gray socks for the Husbeast, using odds and ends of yarn from my mom. Only problem is that she gave me yarn that is two different weights, so I may not have enough. If anyone out there with leftover gray sock yarn that you want to get rid of, just leave me a note!

The upside of Shann shadowing our wonderful vet once a month is that she has a fantastic opportunity to have some hands on experience with working with animals.

Monday Meanderings

This morning’s meanderings are another mixed bag. This weekend was Easter and for a change of pace, the girls hid eggs for us after they finished their egg hunt. I hadn’t been on an Easter egg hunt for years. They did a great job of hiding the eggs and Husbeast and I had a blast searching for the elusive eggs. Another family tradition has been created!

With Easter comes bunnies and I had a lovely time creating these little guys. The pattern is Tiny Baby Bunnies, by Anna over at MochoMochi Land. I don’t know how she manages to create so many different little things, but they are perfect for using odds and ends of yarn.

Saturday was beautiful. I think that Seattle has some of the best blue skies when the clouds are away. I went for a long walk and enjoyed every minute of it!

Finally, sock blanket three is officially finished. For this blanket I used balls with greater yardage to create the rectangles. It definitely creates a different look, but I am not sure that I would do it again. Shann loves it and I think that it was quite appropriate that it was finished on her half birthday.

Believe it or not, it was the only picture I managed to capture yesterday as I completely forgot to grab my camera for the egg hunt. That makes me sad, as some of the hiding places were truly remarkable.

I came home to find these little piles on the dining room table. I asked my daughter about it and she replied that she didn’t like her trail mix mixed. Must be genetic. Husbeast didn’t like mixed nuts at her age and would un-mix them before eating.

Fiona is taking an art class this semester. I think that her drawings are pretty amazing and that my own sketches pale in comparison. So today she gave me one of the items on her assignment list.

Another sign of spring

It has been a very busy weekend. The weather was beautiful yesterday, so I spent some time out in the garden. Weeding, planting, enjoying the fresh air. I also came across these little guys:

There were four of them that I found underneath the bucket I was using to deposit weeds in. I tried to convince them that they need to have proper snail races, but they seemed to have minds of their own.

In addition to all the gardening and laundry that I did this weekend, the Husbeast finally got the flooring finished in the back room. I’ve been waiting for this moment for years!

I finished off my weekend by going for a walk with Shannon and had popcorn for dinner. It doesn’t get much better than that.
