Monday Morning Meanderings

Monday, March 8th, 2010

It truly is the wee hours of the morning. I really should be trying to sleep, but my mind is racing around in a frenzy, knowing that there are tons of things that I should have been doing this weekend that didn’t get done.

67/365 memories

Knowing that I have to be up at the darkest hour before dawn to be at the hospital by 5:30 isn’t helping me either. I know that this is the right decision, but at the moment I am filled with a bit of apprehension and anxiety. Fear of the unknown, even when it is an anticipated thing isn’t easy. But I know that the surgeon and staff are the best and I am surrounded by the love of my crazy, chaotic family and have the support of all my knitting and fiber buddies as well.

I am not sure what I will feel like for a few days post surgery. I’ll try to sneak in a blog post and 365 photo where I can. I have packed some knitting, but nothing complex. It’s a good thing that I don’t mind mindless garter stitch upon occasion!

Perspective

Monday, March 8th, 2010

Today was the second day in a row that we were at the gym, watching gymnastics and breathing chalk dust. The girls did well, and as always it was fun to watch.

The best part was realizing that Shann cn pick up and keep going after making a mistake. It wasn’t that she couldn’t do it before, but the error was always reflected in her face, the effort of fighting off tears was evident. Today that didn’t happen. In my book that counts as a win.

65/365 Painty's Gift

Yesterday I received the nicest gift from Laura at the Unique Sheep. The orangish colour isn’t something that I would have chosen for myself, but I absolutely love it! Thank you Laura for such a thoughtful gesture. It makes me smile every time I look at it and I love it wearing it.

Spiralling

Friday, February 26th, 2010

There are times that things just seem to spiral out of control. This next week may just be one of them. There are fairly benign instances of spiral such as this:

And then there are those out of control spirals that tend to make me a bit more loopy than normal:

spiral...take two

Which is precisly whiy I prefer to knit socks (or anything else for that matter) with double point needles or using the magic loop method. I just spend way too much time trying to keep things under some semblance of detanglement.

Progress

Thursday, February 25th, 2010

I seem to have hit a dry spot in the creativity department lately. I am slogging away on the sleeves of this sweater, and haven’t felt like any of my photos have been much good either.

I am finding that knitting both of the sleeves at the same time isn’t too bad. The good thing is that I am getting all the increases done evenly. The hard part is that it seems like sleeve island is lasting forever.

Signs of spring

Wednesday, February 24th, 2010

It is amazing the difference in a few short weeks. This tree was just barely budding a couple of weeks ago, now look at it! Next time I take a look it will probably have leaves and everything.

54/365 Signs of spring

Speaking of spring green, after my failed attempt at the Skew sock, I am back to working on my Ginny sweater. Since the Olympics is all about the challenge for me and there is a very real possibility that I may not get all of the pieces done and put together by the time that the Olympic Flame is extinguished, I am attempting to knit both sleeves at the same time, in the round so that I have a few less seams to stitch together in the end.

I hope that I can keep everything straight and not totally mess this up!

A bit Skewed.

Monday, February 22nd, 2010

First things first, I was quite taken with the Skew sock from the winter Knitty.

Pretty huh? It is one of those patterns that are quite compulsive, I keep wanting to knit a bit more to see what will happen next.

Where did the weekend go?

Sunday, February 21st, 2010

It is Sunday night and once again I am left wondering where the weekend went. We spent the weekend doing just normal things since we didn’t have a gymnastics meet. We walked the dogs, took the kids out to lunch, worked on household chores and suddenly the weekend just evaporated into Sunday evening.

The Brandywine shawl is done, just waiting for blocking, I am kind of stalled on my Ginny sweater, the socks I started are on a temporary time out. So what’s a knitter to do?

I chose to dive into some sock yarn blanket knitting.

Gotta have heart

50/365 Gotta have heart

Yesterday’s 365 photo that wouldn’t cooperate.

Seattle’s sky couldn’t have been any bluer today. There is no doubt about it, spring is definitely here early this year.

Love mommy, my mommy

Thursday, February 18th, 2010

When I get home every evening, I am often pinned down by this critter:

Despite that particular critter’s dubious help, I manage to get a bit done. Tonight I finished the knitting on the Brandywine Shawl. I increased the repeats on chart B by two and still have a little bit of yarn left. It is difficult to determine if I have enough left to have added one more repeat. I think it might have been possible, but it would have been close.

Olympic Knitting Process

Tuesday, February 16th, 2010

Brandywine by Rosemary Hill is fun and quick knit. Of course I had to try and add a level of complexity to the project by attempting to knit lace while drinking. Didn’t exactly work out very well. Fortunately it didn’t take very long for me to fix the error of my ways the next morning and I was back on track.

Three more repeats on chart B and I am off to chart C!

Meanwhile back at the ranch (aka home), I think that my yearly battle against my dandelion nemesis is doomed already since it isn’t even March yet:
