Back to meandering. It’s a time to be thankful, but there are days where I just don’t feel that way. So how do I take a step back and evaluate, to find something, anything to appreciate in it’s fullest. I am reminded of something that I heard in the sermon yesterday. Find one thing, no matter how small. Hold it in your heart and whisper thankfulness. Concentrate on that one small thing and let it be your thankful for the day.

My thankful moment for the day was small. I found a moment to blog.

Fee and I were walking past an apartment building yesterday when we came across this huge black and white kitty. I thought that our older cats were big, but this guy clearly out masses them in that department.

Despite his size, he was a total love. It was difficult to walk away from him when it was time to go. And yes, Fiona is wearing tights, in July, in summer. At least that is what the calendar says. Outside? Not so much.

Jynx in the Mirror

I’m knitting a pair of generic gray socks for the Husbeast, using odds and ends of yarn from my mom. Only problem is that she gave me yarn that is two different weights, so I may not have enough. If anyone out there with leftover gray sock yarn that you want to get rid of, just leave me a note!

The upside of Shann shadowing our wonderful vet once a month is that she has a fantastic opportunity to have some hands on experience with working with animals.

I really would like to show a better photo of the recently finished sock blanket, but I have run into a slight issue. One, I can’t seem to get daughter number two to let go of it long enough to get the rest of the ends woven in and to repair a couple of the squares that suffered some sort of injury that caused a hole or two.

Second problem is that Squirt seems to think that I made the blanket for him and when Shann isn’t using it, I can find this silly cat curled up on a corner.

Probably due to the cooler than normal temperatures around here, the tulips have been quite amazing. I am constantly amazed at the depth and breadth of colours. I find myself drawn to them and to attempt to capture them in photos because they are only here for such a short amount of time. It makes the cold planting season of October so worth while.

This is a story of a major fail. I failed on my first time around on these socks and I have failed the second time around. The first go around was too tight around my heel. This second time around it is a combination between the resulting sock being too tight on my heel and too baggy around my ankles. I really wish that we could have made this relationship work.

Last week I was at Sock Camp. We have been sworn to secrecy upon the proverbial chicken to not spill the bean about the classes and antics that took place. This is because this year there were two sessions. Personally, I would not have wanted to ruin any surprises for the second week of camp by blogging. So I didn’t.

I think though, that I can share the following project without ruining anything. A few years ago I did some kool-aide dying with my daughter and one of her friends for her birthday party. Since then I hadn’t attempted anything further. Last week we got to play with dyes under the tutelage of the legendary Tina. The result was quite stunning! (if I do say so myself)

105/365 my own hand-dyed yarn

I’m calling this colourway Sabaka, and I most likely will never be able to reproduce this effect. The inspiration was from our dearly departed Sabaka, a shepherd/chow mix who adopted us. The browns and black remind me of him and the yellow and white signifies the light and love he brought into our lives.

It is amazing the difference in a few short weeks. This tree was just barely budding a couple of weeks ago, now look at it! Next time I take a look it will probably have leaves and everything.

54/365 Signs of spring

Speaking of spring green, after my failed attempt at the Skew sock, I am back to working on my Ginny sweater. Since the Olympics is all about the challenge for me and there is a very real possibility that I may not get all of the pieces done and put together by the time that the Olympic Flame is extinguished, I am attempting to knit both sleeves at the same time, in the round so that I have a few less seams to stitch together in the end.
