Its a recurring theme

Thursday, October 29th, 2009

My personal stuff has been suffering a bit of neglect lately. With the girls in school, working full time and trying to juggle the schedules of everyone, there has been precious little sanity time for moi. Somehow I need to change that, but it won’t be this week. Shan has been out of school all week with the flu, and the rest of us are pedalling frantically to avoid the same fate. Poor thing hasn’t emerged from her cocoon of blankets on the couch since Monday. Since she turned 12 on Saturday, so far I’d say she thinks being 12 totally stinks.

New love

Look what I found at our local farmer’s market this past weekend!

kiwi

Little kiwifruit! Not like the fuzzy ones that you find in the grocery store, you can just pop the whole thing in your mouth like a grape. Shannon loves them too, I am not at all sure about Fiona. I literally had to take the rest of them to work so that I would have some to myself.

Did you know that kiwifruit have male and female plants? Read here for more interesting kiwifruit facts!

Parenting by text messaging

Friday, August 28th, 2009

Since I work full time, there seems to be an increasing amount of remote parenting by texting.  Last night I was at the Seattle Mariner’s Stitch and Pitch,  the Husbeast and the girls were at home.  Half way through the game I get the following text from Shannon:

Shannon:  Mom, if you dont have lunch so you have something else later in the day at like six does that count as dinner?

Me:   It depends.  Are you still hungry?

Shannon:  Ya

Me:  Then eat!

apple one

Believe me, that text conversation was much easier than the one earlier in the week where there was much lobbying for another hermit crab:

Shannon:  Mom I was wondering when I could get a hermit crab again.

Me:  I’m pretty done with the hermit crabs for now.  Sorry.

Shannon:  Why?  You said that we should take a break and we did and that was my prize for stopping my habit.  (thumb sucking…hung in there until well past age eight)

Me:  We are still taking a break.  It isn’t forever.

Shannon:  Mom, you said that over a year ago and you said after the remodel and we’re not having the remodel.

Me:  I know.  But right now I am having to spend way too much time with cleaning up the messes we already have.

Shannon:  Aurgh!!!  Please?

Me:  I can’t discuss this right now.  I need to get my work done.

The joys of parenting in an electronic age.  The upside?  I don’t have to remember the conversation.  The downside? Heck, there really isn’t much of one.  At least they are communicating.

The state of my knitting bag

Wednesday, August 26th, 2009

There is a slight problem having multiple projects in one’s knitting bag.  More often than not, I find tangles very similar to the one that I discovered this morning:photo

I really find this to be quite annoying, especially when I am really wanting to settle down with some knitting.  Needless to say, I spent a bit of time today untangling the mess.  Urgh.

Yesterday was our 19th wedding anniversary.  I can’t believe that the Husbeast and I have been together that long.
